Markers and Staining Protocols Non-Human Primate Monocytes

Markers that can be used for identification of monocyte subsets in are DR,CD14, CD16 (Sugimoto, J Immunol, 195,1774, 2015) and slan (see Hofer et al, Frontiers in Immunology, Article 2052, 2019). For CD14 there are clones, which do not cross-react in all monkeys tested while other clones do not react with selected NHPs. As given under https://www.nhpreagents.org/ReactivityDatabase the antibody TUK4 shows reactivity with cells from Rhesus but does not react with monocytes from Marmosets. The https://www.nhpreagents.org/ data base can be helpful, when selecting reagents for the analysis of monocytes in a given species.

The staining protocols listed under Human Monocytes can be applied to NHP whole blood or isolated mononuclear cells. A large panel of additional cross-reactive monoclonal antibodies are available. Antibodies, which have been successfully used in the study of non-human primate blood monocytes, include CD11b and c, CD45, anti-CCR2, CD64, CD68, CD80, CD86 and CD163.
